Students Living With Parents
Traditionally, students have been going away to the university to learn leaving their parents behind. However, such trends have changed in recent times. Students are living with their parents even as they study. Learning has become a lot flexible and now, students can commute from homes to school or even do e-learning. Some of the contributing factors are the increased levies made on accommodation and tuition fees. Therefore, students have found other alternatives and one of them is staying with parents to avoid the double pay on living expenses.
Money has caused a worrisome trend across the learning sector. These are genuine concerns that have caused many to study from their homes. Well, while that has become the norm nowadays, parents of such students have faced unique challenges while accommodating their own children as they study in school. For most students, college years are a period when they can grow independence. As students leave to study far away from home, they are able to learn both the class content and a lot of life skills. At school, students manage their own time and balance between priorities. Most importantly, they manage the money they have, hone their skills of life, maintain relationships and do the logistical requirements on their own. Well, the case is not usually the same for students who attend school while staying at home with their parents. Such life skills learnt by those living in college are not that present in them. The parents as well have a number of challenges of staying with adults at home.
Another reason why students may choose to stay at home is their attachment to the parents. For such, it is fun and joy to stay at home especially because of the family support coming from different members. Other reasons could be because of health issues that need a lot of attention and personalized care requiring them to stay at home. Separation is normally difficult for some of them and therefore, they may choose to stay at home to adjust slowly at least for some part of their years in college. Such categories of students perceive college more like work than a complete style of life. They attend classes but work to keep their private life separate. The most important thing to note is the absence of life lessons that are available in college that won’t be the case while at home. Therefore, it is always a challenge for both the parent and the student. For whatever reason that a student may choose to stay at home, it is important to analyze the situation and make sure that both don’t lose it all.
